What is an AC Disconnect Box?

AC disconnect box

AC disconnect boxes, are also referred to as disconnect switches or simply a disconnect. National Electric Code 440 requires a box to “locate the disconnecting means within sight of, and readily accessible from, the air-conditioning or refrigerating equipment.” AC units are dangerous to work on, and servicing them often requires our technicians to shut off power.

Having an accessible way to shut off the AC unit is very important. For this reason, boxes are often installed prior to the AC unit being installed. Since the boxes are outdoors, they can susceptible to rusting. EzE Air Solutions recomends inspection for rust, corrosion, water damage, or any damage to the wiring. Give us a call today if you think you may need your box repaired or replaced.
